Dish It Up 2010: Chef Jen is back!

The winner of the 2009 Purple Dish Award and chef’testant on Bravo’s upcoming Top Chef All-Stars, Jennifer Carroll, returned to the Women Against Abuse fundraiser Dish It Up on November 4th.

“I’m thrilled to be participating in Dish It Up again,” says Chef Jen. Having just returned from taping Top Chef: Las Vegas before last year’s competition, the Philadelphia born and raised chef said it was like “another quick-fire challenge” to concoct purple cuisine for Dish It Up. But her poached salmon and beet puree wowed the crowd, and the Purple Dish Award is proudly hanging in her office at 10 Arts Bistro & Lounge by Eric Ripert.

This year, Chef Jen will take on a new role – evaluating the competitors for this year’s Purple Dish Award. Judge Jen will be looking for creativity, use of the color purple, presentation, and most importantly, flavor, in the dishes prepared by this year’s contestants.

Jen is eager to be part of the movement to end domestic violence, and is inspired by the many female culinary leaders willing to join forces with Women Against Abuse for this important cause. “Having a group of women come together for the event can show women suffering from violence that we are here to help them.” She adds, “If my participation in this event can help one woman learn about violence, or raise money to help one child in need, then I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Chef Jen, and fellow judges Kristen Henri of Philadelphia Magazine, Felicia D’Ambrosio of Yelp.com, and Phyllis Stein-Novack from South Philly Review, reviewed purple cuisine for Dish It Up on November 4th, 2010.
