Chef Marcie Turney, Lolita / Bindi / Barbuzzo
Purple Dish: Beet Ravioli stuffed with sheep's milk ricotta cheese and topped with a hazelnut brown butter
Operating six businesses, including restaurants Lolita and Bindi, in just a 300 foot stretch Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran are an establishment on 13th Street in Center City. The Mexican fare of Lolita, along with the restaurant’s bring-your-own-tequila policy won Turney and Safran fans after opening in 2004. Bindi, opened in 2007, is widely regarded as one of the best Indian restaurants in the city.
Roz Bratt, Homemade Goodies by Roz
A little over a decade ago, Roz Bratt was working as a bank teller at Mellon Bank. She saw an opening in the market for a kosher bakery and decided to follow her passion and open Homemade Goodies by Roz. A sweet shop on South Street, Homemade Goodies specializes in cupcakes in over ten flavors, and also makes challah, muffins and scones, and a wide assortment of cookies and cakes.

Heather Annechiarico, Hawthornes Cafe
After years in the corporate world, Heather Annechiarico and her fiance decided to open a small beer café in Bella Vista that truly embodies who they are, what they love about food and drink, and how one should feel while dining out...relaxed. As a vegetarian and restaurant owner, Heather focuses on great ingredients, superb quality, and freshness when creating dishes for Hawthornes Café.

Effie Bouikidis, Effie's Greek Restaurant / Paul
When Effie opened her restaurant, it was a family affair – dad found the location, and mom was head chef, introducing Center City to magical recipes straight from Macedonia, Greece. Twelve years later, Effie’s still serves up delicious baklava and moussaka that Zagats calls ‘to die for.’ Last summer, Effie opened her second restaurant across the street from Effie’s which she named Paul in honor of her late father, late owner of Pine Street Pizza.
Angela Iovino, Michele Iovino and chef Rosalba Morici, Girasole
Before opening Girasole on the Avenue of the Arts, co-owners Angela and Franco Iovino operated the restaurant on Locust Street for almost sixteen years. In the new Girasole, Executive Chefs Angela and Michele Iovino, a mother and daughter team, along with chef Rosalba Morici head up the kitchen. The team visits Italy every year to search for new exciting recipes to bring back to Philadelphia.

Francesca Kauffman and chef Franca DiRenzo, Tre Scalini
Tre Scalini is an Italian BYOB built on a culinary tradition handed down through generations. Chef Franca DiRenzo and her daughter Francesca Kauffman currently operate the Passyunk area restaurant. DiRenzo, who is from the Molise region on Italy’s central Adriatic coast, reveals the secret to her success: “Whatever I do, it’s the way my mother taught me.”
Moon Krapugthong, Mango Moon / Chabaa Thai

Chef-Artist Nongyao “Moon” Krapugthong grew up in Thailand, where she often helped her father prepare exotic, robust dishes using fresh ingredients from the morning market. At a young age, Moon recognized the power of using food to show people love and respect. With Chabaa Thai (voted Best Thai in Philly by Zagat’s 2009) and the newer Mango Moon, Moon infuses her food with passion, artistic expression, and joy, determined to give customers an experience that satisfies all five senses.
Lynn Marie Rinaldi, Paradiso
Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Lynn opened Paradiso in 2004 to offer a modern take on the traditional Italian cooking she learned in her mother’s kitchen. Prior to opening Paradiso (and later Izumi), Lynn ran the café at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts for nine years. Known for coming out from behind the kitchen counter on a nightly basis, Lynn has worked hard to create a fine dining restaurant with a neighborhood feel.
Susan Schlisman, Devil’s Alley / Smokin’ Betty’s
Susan Schlisman, owner and operator of the Sam's Grills in Wynnewood and Jenkintown, also operates the popular Devil’s Alley and Smokin’ Betty’s restaurants in center city. At Devil’s Alley, Schlisman focuses on clever cocktails and comfort pub food, often with an exotic twist. Smokin’ Betty’s offers bar bites, barbequed meats and an extensive selection of beers on tap.
Delilah Winder, Delilah's Southern Cuisine
Growing up in Philly’s Germantown section, Delilah celebrated food - especially her grandma’s homemade biscuits. Today Delilah has turned that love of food into a small empire: she has four Delilah’s Southern Cuisine stands throughout Philadelphia, a cookbook (Delilah’s Everyday Soul: Southern Cooking with Style), and her cooking has appeared on everything from The Food Network’s Throwdown with Bobby Flay to ABC’s The View and CBS’ Chef on a Shoestring.

Born and raised in the Somerton section of Northeast Philadelphia, Jennifer Carroll is the chef de cuisine of the award-winning 10 Arts Bistro & Lounge by Eric Ripert. Carroll is also well-known for starring on Bravo's Top Chef where she was a finalist and fan favorite in the sixth season. Carroll won the Purple Dish Award at the 2009 Dish It Up.
