Over the past year, Women Against Abuse, along with our sister domestic violence agencies, has worked closely with health and human services and law enforcement providers, including both non-profit partners and city agencies, to develop a five-year strategic plan for launching a coordinated community response to the urgent public health epidemic of domestic violence in Philadelphia.

Women Against Abuse's Education and Training team was honored last month by the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (PSAHPERD). The team, led by Director of Education and Training Azucena Ugarte, was recognized at the organization's Awards Luncheon on November 21 with an award for Community Teachers of the Year in the Health category.

Philadelphia, PA – Councilman Bill Greenlee, City of Philadelphia Councilman-at-large, will present a resolution designating February “Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month” at the Thursday, January 28th City Council session at 10 a.m. The resolution marks the first time Philadelphia City Council will dedicate an entire month to awareness and prevention of teen dating violence. This far-reaching issue is gaining widespread recognition, as one in three teens reports experiencing physical abuse in a dating relationship.
