MacKay, a Credit Manager at Fretz Corporation, coordinates a toy collection each December for children living at the Women Against Abuse emergency shelter.

Fretz employees have donated toys and other gifts to families at the emergency shelter for 12 years. Women Against Abuse recently chatted with MacKay about his long-time support.

Employee Participation
“Fretz employees wanted to think of a place where our donations would really make a difference, and the whole idea was to bring presents to kids,” MacKay said.
Approximately 30 employees at Fretz’s Philadelphia branch contribute to the annual collection. MacKay and his colleague, Myra Malis, take the money raised to Toys R Us for a shopping spree for the children.

“We all get into the spirit here. We use the Women Against Abuse Agency Needs List, which is great to have an idea of how many gifts to buy. We try to make sure there's something for everybody,” MacKay said.

Continued Support
So what motivates MacKay’s continued support?

“Too many people don't hear about abuse shelters or the good work they do,” he said. “When women are abused, what happens to the kids? Being in a shelter is not exactly the greatest thing in the world, so we figure let’s give to them and hopefully put a little smile on their faces.”
